How Swansea assesses Phase I
- Each year has three modules: Doctor as Scholar and Scientist, Doctor as a Practitioner and Doctor as a Professional.
- The Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA) is the clinical part of the Medical Licensing Assessment, which Swansea students take in Year 4 and which every UK medical student must pass to get a licence to practise. To practise clinical examinations in Years 1 and 2, use the Integrated Clinical Method section above.
- Swansea publishes module names but no full list of exam names, so the exam labels here are our own plain descriptions, not official names.
- Swansea publishes the official dates and formats. Always check your own course materials.
Test yourself
Reading is half of revision. Each unit above links to matching single best answer questions on SimpleMed+.

Hard topics, made short and simple
A free bank of short and simple explanations of complex topics, with memory aids, in bitesize pages. Each one links to the SimpleMed+ questions that test it and to the core knowledge your exams expect.

Getting ready for clinical
Placements start in your first term, so you meet patients in Years 1 and 2 as well. In Years 3 and 4 most of your time is spent on placement, in hospitals, GP surgeries and community health facilities.
An independent revision guide by SimpleMed, not endorsed by or affiliated with Swansea University Medical School or Swansea University. Module names follow Swansea's published Years 1 and 2 curriculum. Swansea's teaching includes case-based learning, and it publishes no topic list. The topic units and the article mapping are our own. The units under Doctor as Scholar and Scientist are our own split of those modules. The Doctor as a Practitioner and Doctor as a Professional units take Swansea's module names. Integrated Clinical Method and Anatomy and Clinical Skills are forms of teaching that Swansea lists on its course page, so they have their own units. Last updated October 2026.
