How Edge Hill assesses Years 1 and 2
- Edge Hill has no modules, so the units on this page are topic groups, not Edge Hill modules. Each year has an overarching theme: The Person and the Community in Year 1 and Understanding Where and How People Receive Health Care in Year 2.
- Assessment includes written examinations, OSCEs, research projects, written assignments and a portfolio. Skills and professionalism are also assessed on placements. Edge Hill publishes no exam paper names, so the exam labels here are general, such as End of Year 1 exams.
- Teaching mixes case-based learning (working through patient cases) and team-based learning (working in teams) on a spiral curriculum (topics are revisited as knowledge builds). The course is organised into sixteen themes that map to the GMC's Outcomes for Graduates, and the six themes in the Throughout Years 1 and 2 section of this page are six of those sixteen.
- This page follows the five-year MBChB (the medical degree), UCAS (the university admissions service) code A100. The route with an added foundation year before the MBChB (UCAS code A110, six years) is not mapped here.
- Always check your own course materials for the official dates and formats.

Reading is half of revision. Each unit above links to matching single best answer questions (multiple choice, with one correct answer) on SimpleMed+.

Getting ready for clinical
The later years are clinical, with placements in hospitals and general practice.
This is an independent revision guide written by SimpleMed. It is not endorsed by, or affiliated with, Edge Hill Medical School or Edge Hill University. Edge Hill publishes no unit list. The Year 1 systems and the course themes are Edge Hill's own; the Year 2 units and the article mapping are our grouping. Last updated October 2026.
