How Dundee assesses the systems years

  • Each year ends with summative exams (exams that count towards your result, unlike formative tests, which are practice). These are an anatomy spot test (you identify marked structures) and an online multiple choice question (MCQ) paper. Year 1 also has an annual formative principles test, known as the AFT.
  • Years 2 and 3 add a two-part OSCE. Students also build a professional portfolio (a record of your progress and reflections, assessed each year) and complete Student Selected Components in Years 2 and 3 (placements or projects you choose yourself).
  • Dundee teaches body systems throughout its first three years (including neurology, psychiatry, reproduction and elderly care), so this page runs to Year 3.
  • This page follows the five-year MBChB (Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery) degree, UCAS (the UK university admissions service) code A100. ScotGEM, the graduate-entry route run by St Andrews and Dundee, and the one-year Gateway to Medicine course (A104) are not mapped here.
  • Dundee publishes the official dates and formats. Always check your own course materials.
