Buckingham Medical School Phase 1 Cheat Sheet
Every unit of Buckingham's Phase 1, term by term across Years 1 and 2, with the SimpleMed articles that cover it. Find your unit, open the articles, revise. The term headings also name that term's exams: formative exams (practice exams), Applied Knowledge Tests (AKT, written exams) and the Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA, a practical exam). How Buckingham assesses Phase 1
- A formative exam (a practice exam) runs in week 9 of each term. The headings above name it only for Terms 1 and 4, the terms with no AKT. A written Applied Knowledge Test (AKT) comes at the end of Terms 2, 3, 5 and 6. The tests are labelled AKT 1A to 1C in Year 1 and AKT 2A to 2C in Year 2.
- The Clinical and Professional Skills Assessment (CPSA), an OSCE-style exam, closes each year. Each year has two parts: CPSA 1A and 1B in Year 1, and CPSA 2A and 2B in Year 2. The headings above group each pair as CPSA 1 and CPSA 2.
- Student Selected Components, Narrative Medicine and ARPP1 and ARPP2 (dated submission points on the school's assessment timetable) sit alongside the exams. Mock AKT and CPSA sittings give practice.
- Buckingham publishes the official dates and formats. Always check your own course materials.

Getting ready for clinical
Phase 2 is the clinical phase, with placements in hospitals and general practice.
An independent revision guide by SimpleMed, not endorsed by or affiliated with the University of Buckingham Medical School or the University of Buckingham. Unit names follow the school's published Phase 1 timetable and programme specification. Terms 4 and 5 follow the layout used for the 2024 intake, and later intakes have moved some units between terms: the 2025 intake has Principles of Pharmacology in Term 4 and Health and Disease in Society in Term 5. Check your own timetable. Buckingham publishes no topic lists, so SimpleMed chose which articles go with each unit and which cases go in the problem solving units. Last updated October 2026.
